Fighting to Free the Wrongfully Incarcerated

Hello! We are Jasmine Smith and Merawi Gerima. We co-chair a campaign called CFIST (Campaign To Free Innocent Survivors of Torture & wrongfully conviction), whose sole purpose is to free the Wrongfully Incarcerated in Chicago, the wrongful conviction Capital of the US.

CFIST is volunteer campaign made up of wrongful conviction survivors, families of current victims of wrongful conviction, and the broader community. We are all fighting for loved ones on the inside demanding justince.

We are raising funds for our upcoming Winter Campaign, in which we will be intensifying our pressure on the States Attorney's Office and the Governor's office to use their power to free these men and women who so clearly have been wrongfully convicted, many of them by the same officers with proven patterns of abuse. One of these officers is Sargent Brian P. Forberg, one of the highest paid officers in CPD, despite having numerous conflicts of interest and over 30 complaints of abuse which is more complaints than 90% of CPD officers.

We will use the money to purchase:

- Flyers, Banners and Posters

- Plastic Lettering

- Handwarmers and Gloves for our winter soldiers

- Doorhangers for canvassing

- Coffee + Snacks for our volunteers
