Not Giving Up: Kanlaya's Road to Recovery

Donation protected

*** UPDATES BELOW***

Hello friends, family and whoever may be so generous to donate to this cause. This account was created to lessen the financial burden for the family of Kanlaya and Matt.

As many of you know, Kanlaya has been in the hospital since May 15th when she suffered a massive stroke that sent her to the hospital during the height of COVID-19.  Since then she has endured a second stroke, a craniotomy surgery, scalp infection procedure and sent to Manhattan/Lenox Hill for a full hysterectomy.  After multiple tests the doctors all confirmed that Ovarian Cancer-Stage 2B was the culprit. The two large tumors were the cause of her massive stokes. In about 2 weeks Kanlaya will begin chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

As you will see in the video above, there is nothing that will stop Kanlaya in her pursuit to rehabilitate. Every day she is overcoming challenges as she currently is not able to use the left side of her body. She has been working harder than ever to walk, climb stairs and regain her mobility again.  Kanlaya has a long road ahead of her, but biggest motivation is to be back home with her son, Ty, and husband, Matt.  When that happens, she will have to take regular trips to the hospital for cancer treatments and rehabilitation.

Thanks to the generosity of those who have previously donated, the ($10k) previously raised has been able to help pay for some of the hospital bills that were not covered by health insurance. (We are all so appreciative of your support!)

Unfortunately, their health insurance has denied some claims already. As we fight for coverage the medical bills continue to pile up and Matt and Kanlaya now have to budget money to ensure their home is properly equipped for her recovery. They are anticipating the following expenses:

*In-Home Physical Therapy (~$21k)
*Unpaid Bills from Hysterectomy at Lenox Hill, Ambulance Rides and Room Occupancy (~$6,000k)
*In-Home Nurse (~$19k)
*Wheelchair and Ramp (~$3k)
*Hospital Bed (~$2,400)
*Rehabilitation Equipment (~$7,500)
*Miscellaneous (Grab Rails, Shower Chair, and other Handicap equipment) (~$800)

Each day brings on new fears of what financial commitments lie ahead.
Your donation will provide Matt and Kanlaya with a sense of relief and anxiety brought on by this financial burden.

Whether or not you are able to donate, we ask that you: 1) Continue to keep Kanlaya in your thoughts and prayers as she continues her fight against Ovarian Cancer 2) Share this page with your friends via email and on social media so that we can reach as many potential donors as possible.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all your love and support. We look forward to the day when Kanlaya has fully beaten this cancer!

Love, Justin  (Brother in Law) and the rest of the Family
