Hi everyone. My name is Sammi. I’m starting this account for my two best friends and their daughter, who is going through a serious struggle that no baby or parents should ever have to go through. Korey and Nikki Slatten are currently at the hospital with their 6 year old daughter, Mila Jo. Last week, they took her to the hospital for what they thought was an ear infection. Soon after that, her ear drum ruptured and an infection quickly developed into meningitis. She has now been diagnosed with Fusobacterium-Necrophorum Lemierre Syndrome which causes clotting.

The infection had spread to her skull and was deteriorating the bone. The original plan was to cut a portion of her skull out and drill a hole in the top to clean the infection by inserting a drain tube. They would continue with Hematology for the long term after. Thankfully, the doctor was able to able to drill without removing a piece of her skull and clean the infected area. The surgery went as well as possible, but he said the infection was pretty bad. The infection had started to dissolve the bone but had not gone through. Thank God. Her other ear was on the verge of being the same, so there is a chance that he will have to do the same on that side since this is so aggressive. They are ordering more images to see progress and she will be in a picc line for 6 weeks. She will be on blood thinners because this can cause a lot of clotting. The hard part is now waiting.
