Phi Gamma Delta Thanksgiving Dinner

Donation protected
The Springfield Community Thanksgiving Dinner is an annual philanthropic event hosted by the Sigma Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta to raise money and awareness for the Springfield Promise Neighborhood.

The event will be held at the FIJI house at 20 Ferncliff Place on Thursday November 19th from 4:30-7:30pm. The cost of the dinner will be $5 per person, with Lincoln Elementary students eating for free, and will consist of a full thanksgiving meal and live performances from Wittenberg organizatons and community outreach programs.

Last year we were successful in serving over an estimated 800 people while raising $8,200. However, this year we would like to go even bigger, much bigger. We expect to serve between [phone redacted] people and raise at least $10,000.

Although funding is essential to the success of the Promise Neighborhood, the dinner's focus is not solely based on raising money for the organization, but on the oppurtunity to strenghten community ties between Wittenberg University and the surrounding community . Like the Promise Neighborhood, the dinner functions as a homegrown, resident driven event that serves to build strong community ties by recognizing dedicated leaders within the community that make a difference each and every day in the lives of our children. The dinner seeks to discover and cultivate these leaders by celebrating their past efforts and to encourage future involvement in our community.

People will be donating money for the cause, and we will strive to achieve our goal of at least $10,000, but what makes this event different from many other philanthropies seeking to raise money for a cause, is that its an event that will, not only raise money to help insure the success of children, but to also bring together all aspects of our community: the north side, south side, east and west, rich and poor, children and adults, college students and community members. All of these people, with so many different kinds of lifestyles and life experiences, will come together under one roof to celebrate one thing: they will celebrate a holiday together, as one community. A holiday that revolves around the notions of selflessness, hopefulness, and a commitment to serving others.

This event has the chance to truly inspire and bring together all of Springfield to celebrate these ideas, each other and our community...our home!

Springfield Promise Neighborhood:

The Springfield Promise Neighborhood is a local collaborative, neighborhood-based effort to ensure the academic and social success of Springfield and Clark County students. The approach focuses on children and doing whatever it takes to help them finish high school and be prepared to either get a good job or succeed in post-secondary education. The initiative seeks to concentrate and focus on strategic academic, social, and economic supports in order to reach its goals. SPN measures their success through four strategic areas. These include School Readiness, Youth Development, Responsive Schools, and Community and Family Engagement (See Strategic Areas, page).

Springfield Community Thanksgiving Dinner's Goal
Although funding is essential to the success of the Springfield Promise Neighborhood, this dinner's focus is not solely based on raising money for SPN. This dinner serves as an annual event to build strong community ties by recognizing leaders within the community. The Springfield Community Thanksgiving Dinner does this by focusing on the Community and Family Engagement strategic area. The dinner is a homegrown, resident driven event that strives to discover and cultivate leaders within the community by celebrating their past efforts and to encourage future involvement. Hence, the event is designed to bring everyone together to be thankful for past endeavors, and to provide resources and support for future efforts in the Springfield and Clark County community.
