Fikes Family Accident Recovery Fund

The Fikes family was traveling home after a fun weekend visiting family and a dinner out for Katie’s 40th birthday when another car crossed into their lane and hit them head on. Clay and Katie were up front and their four precious girls -- Grace, Pearl, Isla, and Mae -- were in the back seats. Grateful to be alive, they are all facing a long recovery.
The Accident & Their Injuries
Katie sustained the worst injuries in the front passenger seat, with a spinal fracture, a fractured right femur in two places, a fractured knee, foot and toes on the left leg and a head laceration requiring stitches. Katie has already undergone an extensive surgery and will face many months in rehab. We don’t know when she will be able to go home from the hospital, much less drive her girls to/from school and activities or even to her own doctor and rehab appointments.
Isla (6) was airlifted to San Jose so that the deep laceration on her forehead and skull fracture could be treated by specialists. Clay’s parents, Sandra and Doyle, drove to San Jose to stay with her so that she wouldn’t be alone.
Clay, a painting contractor, fractured and dislocated his right elbow and injured his right ankle. Grace (10) fractured her left ankle. Pearl (8) fractured her left clavicle. Mae (3) is sore and shaken.
The Fikes Family
Growing up in the Salinas Valley, Katie and Clay began dating shortly after high school and got married in 2002. They decided to raise their family where they grew up so that they could focus on their most important blessings, their children. Grace is in 5th grade, Pearl is in 3rd grade and Isla just started kindergarten. Mae is still at home with Katie during the day.
The girls love arts and crafts and to draw, paint, sew and create in their free time. Singing and baking are also passions in the Fikes household. When not in school or at home, you can often find the Fikes paddle boarding at Moss Landing, playing on the beach, hiking, and spending time with family and friends.
What You Can Do To Help
The Fikes are fortunate to have a loving and supporting community of family, friends and fellow church members who have come by with meals, have already started building a wheelchair ramp for Katie, and will be arranging a meal train, help with rides, etc. Please consider a gift to help them through this difficult time. Any amount will help this beautiful family get back on their feet (literally!).
Because we are so early in this process, we don’t know exact amounts needed yet but know that the Fikes will need help with medical bills/supplies as well as regular monthly bills. We will keep you updated on what the needs are and cannot thank you enough for your support.
Who We Are
This campaign was created with permission of Katie and Clay by Katie's mom Terry, long time friend Jody, and supportive friends and family. Thank you for helping our community support the Fikes Family, we love them so much!
