What an awesome chance to give to those who need it most: Children with medical needs and nobody to turn to for help. We project that the entire cost to perform a cleft lip surgery on one of these children is $167 USD!!
We are currently funding a cleft lip surgical outreach for impoverished children in the Mindoro Oriental Province, Philippines. The target is to complete 15-45 surgeries within a few days of March 28th, 2017.
Surgeons and their teams will be brought in from Manila on a 7 hour bus and ferry ride to small town of Roxas. This will be one of three anual medical outreaches in this province each year. There have been 5 successful cleft lip surgical outreaches in the past few years treating nearly 400 children in total.
We are super excited about how far sponsor funds go in a country like the Philippines, with the support of low/no fee doctors and medical professionals, as well as the excellent organizational skills of the Non-Profit group we have partnered with, Give a Smile. (http://www.giveasmile.org) Depending on the final number of children that are treated, the target cost will be approximately $167 for each child's surgery!
I've personally spent time at their facitlity and was amazed at their love and care for the children that they assist. I've also reviewed their financial statments and expenses and became very satisfied at their efficiency and extremely low overhead costs.
