I am fundraising to plant some trees in Orchard Street for everyone to enjoy.
More trees on our streets will benefit our health, the environment and community well being. Orchard Street is one of the most polluted streets in Chichester due to the constant traffic. Planting trees would help in absorbing some of the carbon produced and improve the air quality.
Each tree location will be checked for suitability by West Sussex County Council, and the tree sourced and planted on behalf of WSCC at a cost of £150 per tree under its Donate a Tree Scheme (see www.westsussex.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/maintaining-roads-verges-and-pavements/road- and-roadside/donate-a-tree-scheme/
I would like to plant 3 trees on the grass verges on the S/SE side (nearest the city) of Orchard Street. Update: WSCC have said we can plant 4 trees, so I have raised the target from £500 to £600, given the generosity of people on the doorstep - I collected £95 this morning (Sat. 25July) - I am hopeful we will meet the target by Thursday next week! LATEST UPDATE - we have slightly overshot our £600 target when doorstep donations are added, and so we can now plant a fifth tree by the food bank if we raise a further £100 by Wed./Thurs. this week. THIS IS A FANTASTIC OUTCOME thanks to your generosity, so if you can pass this on to friends and neighbours for the FINAL PUSH of £100, that would be great. Thanks!
