I am now working on a documentary film about Muslims in America. I hope you can support this project.
My first documentary film, "Essential Arrival- Michigan’s 21st Century Indian Immigrants" was very well received, and I am grateful to all those who provided support. I actually recently finished work on my second film, which is called "The Season in the Mist- Sikhs in America."
I've found that these films are a great way to help promote cultural understanding in our society and hopefully plant the seeds of understanding and peace. I am therefore excited to turn my focus to the next film, which will focus on Indian Muslims in America. I hope you will consider donating to make this film a reality.
Islam and Muslims in America have certainly come under the microscope in recent years. While many questions and concerns are raised about Muslims on talk radio or cable news, I hope this film will help tell a fuller and deeper story about one specific subset of Muslims in America—those with roots in the Indian subcontinent.
Islam originated in the Middle East, but it has been present in India for well over a millennium. Although Americans probably associate India more with Hinduism or Buddhism, India has the second-largest population of Muslims in the world, and there are actually more Muslims in India than in any Middle-Eastern country.
This film will explore the community of Muslims of Indian origin who now live in America. It will follow their roots in India, through India’s turbulent independence and into the present day. It will trace their religious and cultural beliefs and traditions that are unique to this community and continue to play a vital role in the emerging pan-Indian Muslim identity here in the United States.
I hope this film will prove educational and serve to deepen the important conversation of immigrants, diversity and pluralism here in America. I would appreciate any support you can provide for this project.
