My name is Jem Taylor Minier, and I am a 20 year old MA/CT/NY -based independent filmmaker. This campaign is dedicated to raising funds for my thesis film "Indigo Hunting" which will be my directorial debut!
Logline:
After the tragedy of their parents' untimely deaths, a pair of siblings go on a weekend trip with their estranged uncle. As the adventure ensues they realize that he isn’t the friendly figure he initially appeared to be.
Genres:
Adventure, Dark Drama, Psychological Thriller
I'm creating a psychological thriller that normalizes non-binary and non cis characters. It is important to me, as in real life, that the gender identities of my characters are not the main focus of the storyline. Rather, these characters, just like any other people, must face the challenges life throws their way. In the case of these three characters, the challenges they must overcome are far more disturbing than those of your average Joe's daily journal.
The sinister themes and frightening events that unfold during this story force the three protagonists to depend upon one another in order to survive the weekend. The themes and events depicted in this film guide them to better themselves in respect to how they treat others, as well as themselves.

What Your Donations Will Be Going Toward:
Donations of any amount help! We are raising $15,000 in order to cover the expenses of making this film. We will rent some exciting camera equipment so that we can shoot at several unique locations. Your donations will allow us to hire experienced SAG (Screen Actors Guild) actors as well as cover the cost of costumes, props, and travel expenses. Below is a rough breakdown of the expenses:
Cost Breakdown:
Locations: 34%
Actors: 20%
Equipment Rentals: 20%
Film Festival Submissions: 7%
Gas and Travel Expenses: 7%
Set Design, and Costume: 3.5%
Catering: 3.5%
Contingency: 3.5%
Camera Equipment:
We plan on filming the majority of this film with the DJI Ronin 4D cinema camera. This camera is very special because it is not only a cinema camera, but also a gimbal and autofocus system all in one package. Having this camera system will allow us to have fewer crew members on set and reduce travel and catering costs, safety issues, and general hassle. This system's unique abilities also open brand new possibilities for the cinematography of the film.
We will rent the camera system for two different shooting segments. Although the rental prices for the camera are reasonable, because of the plethora of accessories that are needed to make the system function, the price is a hefty chunk of our budget. However, we believe that the advantages of this camera system are worth the price and will save us money and time and provide the image that we are looking for.
Locations:
For the cabin scenes we will film on a private island in central CT where we will not only be able to bring the script to life, but also host the cast and crew. For the siblings' home and the two flashback that happen in the third act of the film we will shoot in and around the Ithaca NY area. The transition between the two locations as the characters talk in the uncle's car will be shot in the Berkshire County MA/Litchfield County CT area.
Actors:
We will hire professional and semi professional actors, including SAG actors.
Set Design and Costumes:
Although we will not need to build any sets, set decoration is going to bring this story to life. Every character has a distinct color palette and style which will be reflected in the world around them, the props with which they interact, and the clothing, accessories, and make-up they wear.
And that's all there is to it!
Thanks so much for becoming part of the team bringing "Indigo Hunting" to life!!
