Final Expenses for Jose Manuel Neves
Donation protected
This fund is being administrated by Yraisa Lopez and overseen by Rev. Jeffrey Jensen of Geneva, Nebraska. Yraisa thought of Jose as her "uncle." Jose spent his teen and adult years living with Yraisa's mother, aunts and uncles as a non-blood sibling. In truth, Yraisa was like a daughter to Jose, He knew her from infancy and loved her as family throughout her childhood. Jose was visiting Yraisa and her family in Geneva, NE when he unexpectedly passed away. During his last hours, Jose was loving on her and her children as if they were his own grandchildren. Rev. Jensen is a family friend and was with the family when Jose passed away on April 7.
Yraisa and her family/church community are raising these funds to pay for the final expenses incurred at the local hospital and funeral facilities in Nebraska. All funds will be transferred through a local bank account in Yraisa's name at Heartland Bank of Geneva, Nebraska and withdrawn specifically by Yraisa only for payment to the local funeral home for transportation/preparation/cremation and legal services.
Jose Manuel Neves was the beloved friend of many. Jose was a citizen of Portugal who moved to Venezuela almost 40 years ago. Despite the turmoil and economic chaos of Venezuela, Jose was a proud, hard working man, who loved and cared for others his entire life. In 2018, Jose buried his wife in Venezuela after she lost her battle with cancer.
In March-April of 2019, Jose travelled to the United States to visit with life-long friends in Tennessee and Nebraska. It was during his visit in Nebraska, that Jose suddenly and tragically collapsed and died on Sunday, April 7, 2019.
Jose was like family to many, even though he was not a "blood relative." He was a dear "brother, uncle and grandpa" to whomever he met. While attending church services during the short time of his visit in the United States, Jose would find often himself in conversation with total strangers who have since said they "felt like friends." Imagine being over 3000 miles from home and finding folks who spoke the language of your childhood... "Portuguese" speakers in NEBRASKA! That is the way Jose lived his life. He is dearly missed, even by those who knew him less than two weeks.
With no Venezuelan consulate or stable economy or government to help arrange for Jose, it was left to some of his American friends to make difficult final decisions. Jose has been cremated and his remains will be personally carried to Venezuela by a dear friend in July.
Currently Jose's friends are trying to make payments to satisfy the expenses of the final arrangements of cremation, transportation and related expenses that have been incurred by Jose's death. Jose's friends are working with a local bank and area churches to raise the needed funds for this campaign. All funds raised will be used solely for the purpose of honoring the final expenses and returning Jose's remains to Venezuela to be buried alongside his beloved wife.
