Finally a Kidney for Matthew!

Hi, my name is Rebecca and I am raising funds to help my 23 year old nephew, Matthew, and his mom, Arci, with living expenses. Matt has had kidney issues since he was a little kid. Arci and Matt would travel from El Paso to Dallas every 3 months for treatment at Children’s Medical Center. Matt was about 10 years old when the trips first started. He has had multiple surgeries, spent many nights in the hospital and has been through so much more than any kid should.

After years of treatment, Matt’s kidneys continued to reduce in function and he eventually was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease. Matt has been on dialysis for the past 5 years. Three times a week, he would undergoing 4 hours of dialysis starting at 5am so that he could work and try to live a normal life.

On Sunday morning, March 5th 2023, they received the life changing call from the University Health System transplant center in San Antonio that there was a kidney available for a transplant. Arci and Matt jumped on the plane and flew in to San Antonio as they had to check in to the hospital immediately for transplant surgery the next day.

Because of someone’s willingness to check the organ donor box, Matt was given a second chance in life. We are so thankful and blessed to accept the generous gift from the donor and their family.

Matt had a successful kidney transplant on Monday afternoon but the journey is not over yet. Matt has to stay in San Antonio for the next 4 weeks for follow up visits which is why I created this gofundme. Arci and Matt will need funds to assist with temporary living arrangements, food and time off from work.

We pray Matt’s body accepts his new kidney and he can finally live a normal life outside of the hospital.
