Financial Need / Carl Hofmann Family Expenses
Donation protected
10 year old, Carl Hofmann and his younger brother, Braxton, were in an (buggy) accident on Saturday 03/14/2020. Brax was bruised & scuffed up some, seen in ER and released. However: Carl was transferred from MMH by squad to Akron Children's Hospital, where he had emergency surgery, and He is currently in ICU with a badly shattered leg and ankle. MMH Surgeon had already warned his parents not to be shocked if they were told that he may lose his foot. While in surgery, they put screws in his leg to make an external metal cast and then drainage tubes were placed, intended for the next few days, when another surgery would be done.
His mom, Becky, was woken up this morning when the nurse was paging trauma because Carl’s toes were turning purple and He was losing the feeling in his foot. He was taken back to surgery to clean it out and to see how much skin, muscle and tissue was dead.
Things didn't look well in surgery, lots of muscle has died. Doctors are monitoring it until Friday, if anything changes: fever, color of foot changes, or throwing up, it would be cause for emergency surgery for possible amputation. Amputation at that point would be best because that way the risk of infection would be gone. They could then get his leg pieced back together and start the process of prosthetics He also told them that the metal in the leg (which he would have a lot of) is breeding grounds for bacteria.
The Surgeon said he wasn't sugar coating anything but it's bad!
Becky and Boone are both at the hospital with Carl. This is a critical time for their son.
As Family & Friends of this family, we are asking for any donations that you are able to give. Neither are able to work during this critical time, Funds needed are for the medical costs that will be accumulating, Food expenses while they stay with their young son, and travel expenses for when they will be able to drive home to Marietta, to see their other children for a few hours..
No amount is too small, and Appreciation cannot be measured.
We thank each and every one of you in advance!
