Financial Support for Striking IBEW 1220 Workers
Donation protected
Hello! I'm Michele, and I'm starting this fundraiser to help support the workers of IBEW 1220 and their families while they are out on strike.
The IBEW Local 1220 family at WTTW Channel 11 (Public Broadcasting in Chicago, IL) is a small group of 30 editors, graphic artists, technicians, camera operators, audio and video professionals fighting for a fair labor contract. We have been working tirelessly for a new contract since May of 2021.
Management is proposing to overhaul our work jurisdiction completely and pushing for dangerous language to allow non-union employees to be eligible to perform union work. These actions by the company are nothing short of union-busting. IBEW Local 1220 has attempted to help the company with their demands by providing reasonable and agreeable language that would work for both parties in the subsequent agreement. Still, the management is not interested in a position that is not their own. Now that it is clear the company will not budge, Local 1220 has been forced to strike to fight for a fair contract. We are not fighting for money but for the ability to maintain middle-class jobs and continue creating professional and creative content well into the future.
While we are fighting on the picket lines, we would be so grateful to anyone willing to donate so our union families can continue paying the bills and providing for those who depend on them. We started the picket line on March 16, 2022, and there is no telling how long this strike may last.
We thank everyone for their support and solidarity,
The brothers and sisters at IBEW Local 1220
