Finding Blake a kidney fund
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Brenda Kelly, and I’m one of Blake’s grandmas. Next month, Blake is turning 12.
Long story short, in 2022, Blake was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. Since then, he has had numerous visits to SickKids Hospital in an attempt to bring him into remission. Unfortunately, last September, his kidney function began to decline rapidly. Blake is now in Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)—kidney failure—and has been on dialysis ever since.
In the past month, Blake has been admitted to the hospital twice firstly due to pneumonia for a full week, secondly for fluid around his heart and in his left lung which had collapsed. Now, his doctors face a tough decision. They need to change his dialysis treatment, which can no longer be done at home. This means his family will have to travel to SickKids 3 to 5 times a week for treatment.
We are actively looking for a live kidney donor for Blake (check out Find Blake a Kidney), as a transplant is in his future. However, even if a donor is found, the transplant will have to be put on hold until Blake is healthier.
Blake’s mom, Sam, is balancing work and running her business when she can, while Tyler is Blake’s primary caregiver, receiving some government assistance. With the rising costs of everyday life, plus the extra expenses of travel, parking, and hospital visits, they could really use some help.
If you’re able to donate, any amount would be greatly appreciated. And if you’re unable to give financially, please consider sharing Blake’s story.
All we want is for Blake to get back to being a kid—going to school, playing hockey, and hanging out with his friends. He still has a long road ahead, but he’s a positive, strong kid, even through these tough times.
Thank you for your support and prayers. ❤️
