Finding Bogey

My name is Annie Ballantine. My dog Bogey––an 8-year old female, redbone coonhound––ran away from our home in Fairfax, Virginia on June 11, 2021. When going out for a late-night potty, the buckle on her collar failed and the collar came off. Unfortunately, her GPS collar was being charged at the time. She ran off into the night to eat cicadas. Since that time, I have spent every day and night trying to locate her, and bring her home. We have had numerous sightings many of which have been confirmed by professionally trained scent dogs, but Bogey has run away from anyone who has made eye contact with her. She has covered territory of roughly 60 square miles, ranging from Fairfax to Lorton to Springfield VA.

 

Bogey has an awesome team of people working to help bring her home--almost all of whom are volunteering their time and skills. Team Bogey is comprised of professional trackers, shelter and rescue volunteers, friends, and neighbors. Bogey's story is documented on Facebook . We even have had several of our followers become active members of Team Bogey! And while we haven't been able to bring Bogey back home yet, we have helped other pet owners in the Fairfax County area find, and be reunited with, their lost pets!

 

Why are funds needed to find a lost dog?

For the first 6 months after Bogey ran away, I put my professional pet photography business on hold in order to focus on finding Bogey. This was feasible for several months, however, the cost of hiring professional trackers, making signs, setting up and maintaining monitored feeding and bedding stations costs in the hundreds of dollars each week.  While I am back working again, I am not taking a full schedule of clients.  Additionally, I've had so many caring individuals (who don't have time to pass out flyers or make signs, or who don't live in the area) reach out and ask me how they can help. I want to provide an outlet for for people, no matter where they live or what their time commitment may be, to help bring Bogey home.

What happens to the money in the Finding Bogey fund once Bogey is found/returns home?

I will gladly donate all remaining funds to the Lost Animal Resource Group to help others find their missing pets. The services this organization provides are amazing and much needed. Bogey is akin to my child. She was the inspiration for my photography business. I will not stop until I bring her home. I know others who have lost pets feel the same way, and I would like to help them as well.
