Fingerhut family fire

Hi! My name is Cassie DuBray. I'm rasing money for the Fingerhut family. Candyce and I have been friends since mr.simpsons class in 5th grade.

They had a horrible house fire and have lost everything 3 weeks before Christmas. Insurance will help eventually but for now they need more immediate help. Please contribute if you can.

Here's her story:

Tonight….well, I guess now it was last night….we had a house fire. Everything is gone or ruined, but we are all alive.

7 hours later I am numb and it’s hard to find the words. I’m wearing my neighbors clothes. Anakin and Zoey are wearing strangers clothes. The neighbors on our street are some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met. Tonight strangers came out and saved us. Literally. My neighbors pulled me and my children from our back yard, barefoot, one in nothing but a towel, and another in his underwear. My throat hurts from screaming.

This photo is what is left of Ciscos bedroom. A once adorable turquoise room covered with anime and custom art work is gone. The rest of the house is covered in Black. I can’t believe this morning I was mad about clothes hidden in the closet and under the bed. It all seems irrelevant now. Our master bedroom got hit the least, but everything is ruined. Everything we own will need to be replaced.

My Stormy Girl and Figaro were given their angel wings. Stormy, thank you so much for all of your love. All the nights snuggling me and my babies when we were sick. You were our Stormy Sick Kitty and we will never have another girl as sweet as you ever. My heart will forever ache for you. I promise you I will come for you. You will be at rest and find peace soon. Figaro was literally the biggest pain in my ass, but he gave Cisco so much comfort through his hard years. I don’t know how Cisco will get through this. I don’t know it’s fully hit him yet. Sam saved our Archie and Cosmo. They are safe in my neighbors shed, but we will hopefully have them with us tomorrow.

We literally only have the clothes on our back, but we are together. This is the only night I will ever be thankful Livi doesn’t live with us full time.

I don’t know how I got all of my kids out, but I did. Anakin is the strongest, bravest five year old I’ve ever met. My Zoey was in the shower when the fire started and evacuated quickly in nothing but a towel. Thank goodness the girls next door gave her clothes. I have stickers and glass in my feet. We were all barefoot.

I never ask anyone for anything. But I don’t know what to do. Christmas is in 3 weeks and my kids literally just lost their everything. Tomorrow when I’m more awake I will set up a go fund me or something maybe. Until then, Ed has Venmo and I have paypal and messenger pay. I have nothing to give you. But one day, when this is all over I can promise you I will pay it forward. Ed and I are proud of our independence and never ask for handouts, but we are literally at the lowest point either of us have ever experienced before in our lives and we need grace and understanding.

Please don’t ask how the fire started. It was a horrible accident. There’s nothing else to say. My phone is gone. It melted in the fire. I do have my ipad….so I’m able to message through messenger or through imessage if you have it.
