Unearthing Hope: Support Finishing a Documentary on Earthquake Resilience and Remembrance
Zaid, a Washington-based journalist driven this time by a personal heart-wrenching mission: to find his mother, who along many others was lost under the rubble. On February 2023, a devastating earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria, leaving a trail of destruction and countless lives in turmoil.
As a son, Zaid’s journey began as a personal quest in search of his mother, as journalist, he was a witness to the harrowing scenes of rescue efforts of the trapped victims in the chaos of one of the biggest natural disasters.
Zaid did what he does best as à journalist, picked up his phone and documented these moments, and found himself transporting bodies to hospitals, and standing by Abu Naif, a Syrian refugee anxiously trying to find his wife and three children, including a six-month-old baby. These scenes are just glimpses into the lives of thousands of Syrians who fled the horrors of war, only to face the merciless war of nature- an earthquake that reshaped their reality.
Collaborating with a documentary filmmaker Zaid weaved these scenes into a powerful, feature-length documentary, now in the post-production stage. This non-profit film, dedicated to the memory and untold stories of the earthquake’s victims and their families.
The documentary will be showcased at festivals but urgently needs your support to reach completion. Your donations will be crucial for covering the remaining production and technical costs, including: • Color grading • Music composition • Sound mixing Your contributions honors the memory and the resilience of the thousands of those affected and a testament to human spirit, resilience and hope in the face of nature’s adversity.
