Finley's Journey with Genetic Epilepsy
Donation protected
On March 30th, our son Finley started having seizures. We rushed him to the hospital, and he was given emergency medicine to stop them. They worked for a few days, and we were sent home not really understanding why he had the seizures or what we could do to prevent them.
Two days later, he started having a seizure in the car while I was dropping his sister off at school. He has been in the hospital ever since. Finley was diagnosed with epilepsy, and we later found out he has an ATP1A2 genetic mutation that causes his seizures. There is no cure for his condition, and the mutation is so rare the doctors really don't have much material to go off of as far as coming up with a plan to control his seizures.
He was placed in a medical coma on the 13th due to having 20+ seizures in a day. He is currently stable and seems to be on the mend.
I was on maternity leave when the seizures first started, but I have since gone on personal leave, and while I will return to work on the 5th, we are quickly falling behind. We don’t need much and are extremely grateful for any support, whether it’s a share or just kind thoughts for our sweet boy.
