Fiona Damage - North Rustico Lighthouse Shop

Donation protected

I am starting a Fundraiser for my Mother. She owns the building that housed Oh Hey by the Sea in North Rustico Harbour, PEI. It was devastated by Hurricane Fiona. Many buildings and wharves were lost entirely. You may have seen my Mom's building on the news. It is still vertical but tipping in the new location Fiona selected for it.

The first floor of the building was flooded. The floor is gone, the decks disappeared into the ocean, and the framing is not stable. It can be seen during the storm in this video. No, it isn't a 2 storey... it is a 3 storey:
It was submerged in 8 feet of water.

We are in the process of evaluating the damage. As most of the island is still without power, we are getting information as it becomes available. We will provide updates as things progress.

We are unsure if the building can be restored or will have to be demolished and rebuilt or somewhere in the middle. It would be sad to see a piece of history lost. Our family has lived and worked here for over 200 years and have never experienced such a catastrophic event.

We are devastated. We will be using this money to try to restore the building and maintain the history of this beautiful harbour.

I am the Great Grandaughter of Beecher Court and the Granddaughter of Una Court. My Great Uncle Emard Court still lives in the house across the road from our little unique building.
