Fiona’s NICU Fight & Loss of Sylas & Asher Chiodo
Donation protected
Liz and Anthony are high school sweethearts who have been together since 2009. They tried for two years to start their family, but since Liz has PCOS, her eggs were not able to grow to the size needed for fertilization. After 4 rounds of drug interventions, the Chiodo Triplets’ heartbeats were all heard, and the babies started to grow.
The babies and mom had a typical pregnancy, but at 20 weeks it was discovered that Liz’s cervix was shortening. When traveling back to Pittsburgh for their babies’ shower, Liz went into preterm labor at just 21 weeks and 5 days. The hospital informed Liz and Anthony that they could not provide any type of intervention until the babies were at 22 weeks of gestation, so Liz was on bedrest as the family counted down the minutes until the hospital could intervene. The babies arrived at 7:46 pm and 7:47 pm on November 1st when they were 22 weeks and 1 day old. Asher Michael weighed 435 grams, Fiona Florence weighed 445 grams, and Sylas Gregory weighed 505 grams. Sylas passed in his mother’s arms on November 2nd at 3:10 pm and Asher passed in his mother’s and father’s arms on November 3rd at 3:20 pm.
Fiona is now at 27 weeks of gestation and weighs only 1 pound, 4 ounces and has a very long road ahead of her. Fiona has earned the monikers of Fierce, Feisty, and Fighter and has captured the hearts of her parents and family. She is fighting this battle without being alongside her brothers for the first time in her life and needs all of the support that she can get.
Our goal is to help with the financial burden of having a micro-premie and helping to ease the pain of the loss of Asher and Sylas. Liz, who is a pediatric Speech Language Pathologist in Harrisburg, is currently unable to work while caring for Fiona in the NICU in Pittsburgh. Your love and support is appreciated by the entire Chiodo family and will not ever go unnoticed.
