Fire at Hartman's Herb Farm

On January 26, 2023 Hartman's Herb Farm suffered a 2-alarm fire and lost three greenhouses and numerous livestock being housed in the greenhouses for the winter season. The Barre Fire Department, with help from Rutland and Hubbardston, were able to contain the fire so it did not spread to the rest of the property.

I began working at Hartman's Herb Farm as a teenager and continued to work there through my young adulthood. I have remained close to the family and have watched firsthand how hard they work to create such a wonderful business that so many love to visit. The number of landmark occasions such as; weddings, baby showers, celebrations of life, and anniversaries has reached so many people in town and throughout the State. Who didn't love visiting the animals during these events? They had a robust greenhouse system that grew plants, sold to customers, used in the kitchen, and their wreath making. They ship wreaths and herbal creations all over the county in memory of loved ones.

Carissa Hartman-Wozniak and Lynn Hartman have built this family business continuously running for over 40 years. They fully rely on the income of the greenhouses in all aspects of their business. The insurance company will cover some of the damages, but there has been so much lost including; animals, feed, pens, tables for the greenhouse, potting supplies, watering systems, heating systems, and greenhouse infrastructure. The cost to replace these items has increased due to the ongoing economic crisis.

The Hartmans have been generous with so many families and organizations over the years, and have shown a giving spirit with so many. Please consider donating so that we, as a community, can give back to them.
