Fire Burns Down Rutgers Off Campus House

At approximately 8:00 AM on the morning of December 15th, 2023, a suspected electrical fire broke out in the attic of Zeta Beta Tau’s satellite residence on Huntington Street, just off the Rutgers College Avenue Campus, and it quickly engulfed the entire building. We are fortunate to report that everyone quickly evacuated the premises, and none of our brothers sustained any physical injuries. However, the traumatic event has taken a toll on our family. This is a difficult time for us all, and we are grateful for all of the prayers and support from our classmates, friends, and families. Additionally, we would like to extend our most sincere thanks to all the first responders who quickly arrived on scene and worked to extinguish the fire and ensure our safety.

As a result of fire and water damage, many residents lost essential school electronics such as laptops, ipads, and desktop computers.

Others lost their entire wardrobes, including all of their shoes and winter gear. Most lost their beds, furniture, hygiene products, and kitchenware.

Everyone, however, lost their home at Rutgers University.

All 16 students are currently left scrambling for spring housing, as the house is not recoverable.

Many have contacted us out asking how they can support us during this troubling time, so we have decided to set up this GoFundMe page. 100% of all donations made here will be allocated to the residents of Huntington Street with the purpose of replacing essential personal losses such as computers, clothing, and furniture for a new residence(s). Any extra donations would be kept safely in an emergency fund for future crisis situations. We would appreciate donations of any size. Regardless of whether or not you are able to make a donation, we ask that you please share this post with as many people as possible.

This page is run by one of the affected members of the house fire, Justin Moskowitz. All donations will be transferred to our fraternity bank account where we will evenly split the funds between the affected brothers. This will serve as monetary relief for all that has been lost among all 16 of us.

Mark Klemick, the treasurer of ZBT, will be handling all of the donations by distributing them to the proper people.
