House Fire Recovery Fund

Hello, my name is Kristen, and I have volunteered to create this campaign to help out some friends in need. On Saturday, Sept 24, tragedy struck John and Devin's lives. A fire consumed their new house, killing their sweet kitty, Scout, and destroying everything they have. To make this especially tragic, John and Devin just bought this house (their FIRST house) and moved in a week ago. While these two should be basking in the glory of new home ownership, they are instead in utter despair over losing everything.

The cause of the fire was officially ruled inconclusive by the fire department investigator. He said that it looked like it originated somewhere on the floor between the ceiling of the garage and the floor of the living room. His best guess was that it started as electrical and then did damage to a gas line. Because of the extensive damage though, he couldn’t be sure.

I know a lot of friends have been reaching out about how to help. This campaign has been set up in response to your wanting to help.

A note from John: “Please don’t feel like you need to contribute financially. In spite of this tragedy, many losses, and our sadness right now Devin and I are so fortunate in many ways and the outpouring of support of people offering us places to stay, calling and texting with their love and support has been incredible. A phone call, a text, or a hug are just as appreciated and meaningful to us.”

Insurance will cover a large portion of the monetary losses, but it doesn't cover everything. John and Devin will still need to make their house payments (even though it's no longer a house), will be missing work and thus wages, and incurring so many other incidental costs.
