Fire Damages to Esteem Studios

Hi, my name is Emily and I’ve created this go fund me to support our business Esteem Studios as it goes through a temporary closure, due to fire damages. All donations will go to the owners of Esteem Studios (Myself and my husband Cruz) and will contribute to recovering business loses as well as maintaining business expenses during this time of closure. It’s with a heavy heart that I announce the temporary closure of Esteem Studios

On Tuesday morning when I went to work and unlocked the front door, smoke came pouring out. We called the fire department and they discovered there was a fire in the basement. It must have occurred in the late evening or early morning when no one was in the building.

The fire fighters/investigators informed us that the cause of fire was a basket of laundry (not even in the dryer) that spontaneously combusted. Although very uncommon, the residue of possible oils or products we use during various treatments, combined with cotton linens, combined with the perfect balance of oxygen, the ignition of these materials can occur. Even more mind blowing, the fire started directly under a water pipe, and when the pipe melted, it put the fire out completely.

At first glance we thought we were in the clear and would just have to do a deep clean to remove all the soot from the building, fix some pipes, minor things. Upon further examination we discovered the smoke damage is literally embed in the walls, floors, insulation, everything. Because soot is so dense and absorbs into everything, most of our things are contaminated and most of the interior of the building will need to be torn down and rebuilt.

As most of you know Cruz and I poured our life into this building, this is such a major loss for us. We just finished our complete renovations only 7 months ago, where at the end it was our literal blood, sweat, and tears that finished the job. We’re grateful for insurance, but it won’t be the work that WE did. It’s just not the same. In addition, our insurance will only cover so much of the costs. The financial and emotional toll is very heavy.

I want to thank everyone who has reached out thus far and have (or is willing) to help in anyway possible. Our community of family, friends, clients, etc. have been so supportive and even the kind words from people has gone such a long way. I’m truly humbled by everyone’s generosity and I know this path will only make us stronger.
