Fire Recovery fund for Les Murzsa

Donation protected

On July 30, 2022, our dear friend, Les, lost his home and possessions due to the Keremeos Creek wildfire near Apex Mountain. Les lived “off the grid” in a remote location, and it was not possible for firefighters to stop the fire before it reached his property. He evacuated with nothing but the clothes on his back, leaving behind even his cat, who is believed to have perished in the fire. Due to his home's unique and remote location, Les wasn't able to insure either the structure or the contents. The devastating fire has left him with nothing. We are raising money to help him rebuild his life.

We are all in absolute shock at this devastating news. To lose everything and to have to find strength to start again is very difficult. He has been in contact with Emergency Services for support. However, that will only last for the short term, which is why we have organized this go fund me.

Les grew up in Kelowna and eventually made his home on Green Mountain for the past 12 years, where he worked at the Twin Lakes Market. He loves gardening, playing acoustic guitar and living a simple, peaceful life. Everyone knew Les in the community because he is so kind, friendly and easygoing. It is important that we come together to help our friend during this terribly hard time.

All funds raised will be given to Les, to help him rebuild and acquire so much of what was destroyed in the fire. In the short term, Les needs to find and furnish a rental space, get some clothes and basic household items, and stock up on groceries. The extensive record collection he lost to the fire irreplaceable, but a new sound system would help him cope during this hard time. Longer term, he wants to rehabilitate his property and build a new, simple house. Due to inflation and construction shortages, building even a small home will be expensive.

It will take a great deal of effort, time, support, and money to rebuild the land and make a home again. Any donation is greatly appreciated along with any good thoughts you can send his way. No contribution is too small. Thank you ❤️
