Fire Relief to Help Sailing Maui Stay Afloat

Aloha to the Hula Girl and Shangri-La Ohana,

This is Captain Peter and Inca Wood, the owners and operators of Sailing Maui Inc, dba Hula Girl and Shangri-La sailing charters.

We were fortunate our crew and all the families are safe and accounted for. The Hula

Girl and Shangri-La survived the Lahaina Fire with only minor damage. Sadly our warehouse and base yard was in the heart of Lahaina and burned to the ground. During normal operations our Marine Insurance focuses on the safety of the passengers, crew and vessels. In this unique circumstance we are finding out that our base yard, business interruption and so many other things are not covered.

We have received so many texts and emails from all of you asking how you can help. Some of you have already donated to the Go Fund Me for the Hula Girl Crew, who have lost their homes and now have no income until further notice. For this we thank you dearly.

Now two weeks after the fire we realize it will be an uphill battle to keep the Employee benefits and expenses intact, to ensure that they will have a job when the infrastructure allows us to continue chartering from Kaanapali Beach.

The funds received from this Go Fund Me will be used for the maintenance and upkeep of our beautiful boats in the interim, as well as the on going health insurance for our staff and the very expensive dry docking of Hula Girl from Sept. 5th through Oct. 23rd. We will also be providing housing for our chef Sergio, his wife and 2 small children who lost their home and everything else in the fire. By then, we are hoping it will be just a matter of time before we are able to welcome you all back aboard for whale season and the Christmas holidays.
