Fire Station Renovation
Donation protected
My name is Shawn Hicks, Fire Chief for the City of Tye Volunteer Fire Department. The fire department was recently gifted a building to be used as our fire station. The building is much bigger than the one we currently occupy, but is in need of renovation before we move in. After the property was inspected, asbestos was discovered throughout the building. We recently had the majority of the asbestos abated at a cost of just under $40,000. The abatement left us with a "shell" in the office area, and most of our funds depleted. In addition, a few water leaks were discovered, and the meter box needs to be upgraded with a service disconnect installed.
The fire department is asking for donations to help with the renovation, including redoing the walls, floors, ceiling, repair of water leaks, and adding a new meter box with disconnect. The renovations will allow us to hold training inside a climate controlled classroom, something we do not currently have, and provide us with a fitness area. Additional needs include installing three garage door openers in the apparatus bays, and the repair of the cinder block wall on the north west corner of the building.
On behalf of the members of the City of Tye Volunteer Fire Department, I would like to say thank you for your consideration in making a donation.
