Fire Strikes: Help Olivia’s Shop

In the early morning hours, the owner of Olivia’s Shop in Bel Air, MD received some of the worst news a business owner could receive: there was a fire at the business causing extensive damage to the building and merchandise. Thankfully, the occupants in the apartment above the shop were able to escape uninjured, but sadly the ensuing smoke and water damage has essentially put the small, family-owned consignment shop out of business.

For anyone familiar with Olivia’s Shop on 2721 Conowingo Rd, you are probably aware that the long-time owner, Sonja, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly back in May and her son, Jarod, has been working hard to pick up the pieces and ensure Olivia’s Shop remained open and serving the loyal customers that have frequented the shop for years. After a successful holiday season, there was optimism that things were on the right track and Olivia’s Shop would be around for the long haul, just to receive the devastating news morning.

While there is some insurance in place to help, it is limited to the business-owned property and does not extend to the many items on consignment which makes up the overwhelming majority of the merchandise that was destroyed in the fire and effort to extinguish the fire. Jarod is now left trying to pick up the pieces once again and his biggest concern is trying to make his consignment clients “whole” by coming up with some extra money to pay them for their items that were destroyed.
