Fire Took Dina's Home, Let's Restore Hope
Donation protected
This is one of those things you never expect to write, but I am reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your help.
My mom, Dina Ament, a retired, breast cancer survivor, and the grandmother of my three kids has been through more than anyone should ever have to endure. Unfortunately, the Eaton Fire that ripped through Altadena, California has taken away the one place she called home, along with all of her belongings.
Just a couple of years ago, my mom was fighting for her life against breast cancer. She battled through months of treatment with chemotherapy and radiation and now still deals with the painful side effects of treatment, including long-term neuropathy in her feet. It was a constant struggle, but she showed incredible strength, determination, and hope. We all believed she had fought her hardest battle and won.
But the devastation of this fire has shaken her world in ways we never expected. She awoke at 4 am Wednesday to the sound of her smoke alarm and her dog barking, and thanks to the help of her neighbors, she escaped with the clothes on her back, her dog, her computer, and a few blankets.
The fire has left nothing but ashes where her home once stood. All the memories, her beautiful garden in the backyard, all the things that made it hers — are gone. While she is grateful for her safety and that of her dog, Sadie, the pain of losing her home — especially after everything she’s already been through — is almost unbearable for her.
For my mom, this house was more than just a place to live. It was a symbol of her resilience. It was a space where she recovered, found comfort, and dreamed of better days ahead. To lose that on top of everything else feels like the world has come crashing down again.
We are now trying to help my mom with not just a home, but a sense of security for her. My mom is struggling physically, emotionally, and financially. She is already facing the challenges of recovering from cancer and managing the constant pain of neuropathy. Losing her home has added an unthinkable burden on her.
I am asking for your generosity to help her start over. Every donation will go directly to my mom and the long road ahead of her.
No one should have to go through this alone. If you can donate, please know that every little bit helps, and every gesture of support means the world to our family. If you can’t contribute financially, please share this page with others who may be able to help.
Thank you for taking the time to read my mom’s story. Your kindness and generosity give my mom hope, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
