#FireAdamGase
This fundraiser was set up by New York Jets season ticket holder and NYSF Magazine CEO Jason Koeppel.
100% of the donations to this GoFundMe are specifically for the purpose of sending loud public messages to New York Jets ownership that fans are fed up. This movement is actually about holding ownership accountable for their actions over the past decade.
What do we hope to accomplish?
The #FireAdamGase movement is about encouraging change to the people and process involved in making bad hire after bad hire. It's about ownership moving on from who we feel is a terrible head coach. Somehow, the Jets managed to attract a GM (Joe Douglas) with a pedigree who is well regarded around the league. How about you fully let him do the job you brought him here to do and hire the next coach?
Our frustration is the culmination of a decade of bad hires and baffling decisions, one begetting the other:
• Firing Mike Tannenbaum but keeping Rex Ryan, making the GM job unattractive to the best candidates... Which lead to hiring John Idzik, and then firing them both two years later.
• Hiring a new GM (Maccagnan) and coach (Bowles), but as an arranged marriage with both reporting to ownership. Then keeping them both too long, but firing the coach and keeping the GM, making the coaching job unattractive.
• Another bad coaching hire (Gase), and another baffling decision to fire the GM (Maccagnan) only after allowing him another draft and to spend $100,000,000 in free agency.
At what point will ownership look at that track record and think, maybe it turns out that we don’t know what we’re doing, because whatever we’re doing isn’t working. At all.
Where do we go from here?
It is important to point out that going to these extreme lengths to send a message to ownership is not something that we enjoy. Jets fans are amongst the most passionate and patient fans on earth. It has been over fifty years since our last trip to the Super Bowl and we line up year after year to support the team.
That said, fans feel disrespected by ownership. The benefit of the doubt is gone. We have been lied to and let down by this ownership group too many times over the past decade to expect Christopher Johnson to fire Adam Gase and be accountable. We feel that if Gase is given another year with Sam Darnold, he will ruin the one possible franchise quarterback that we have had here since Joe Namath. Gase was specifically brought here to elevate Darnold, and we are watching him regress week by week.
Fans pay enormous PSL and season ticket invoices every single year regardless of the terrible product that we are purchasing. We feel that gives us the right to speak loudly and put pressure on ownership. Until changes are made, the GoFundMe will stay up, the donations will keep rolling in, and these public statements will continue.
***As per GoFundMe Rules, I must clarify that CEO Jason Koeppel will be withdrawing the funds from this gofundme campaign and will be using 100% of the money to pay for the planes, billboards and other public messages***
