Fires destroyed Dads dogs sanctuary
Donation protected
Most of you have never met my dad, but certainly would have seen pictures or videos. 12 years ago he used his inheritance and brought a piece of land in the Spanish Mountains. He pulled up to my work to say goodbye, in a car towing a caravan. In the caravan was 2 dogs, 5 cats and a pigeon. He drove to Spain and built his dog sanctuary Saviour Corral. He gave dogs quality of life after being abused and abandoned. He let them roam the olive and almond groves, playing freely until their last days. It was my dads life long work, his heart, his soul, the air that he breathed. The look in the dogs eyes as they knew they would be loved from now on.
The sanctuary itself was set in acres of land with a big compound, dog runs inside and of course the caravan where he lived. The dogs spent most of their time outside in the sunshine.
As of early hours Sunday morning a wildfire caused by a single lightening strike has raged across the mountain side. My dad opened the gates to allow the dogs to escape. He managed to grab a handful of clothes, his phone and 2 small dogs.
But nothing could be done. The fire has engulfed and destroyed everything, his life's work, his home, his belongings. As I write this, the fires are still going, with a 30km perimeter. He is sleeping in his car and has been evacuated from 3 different villages as the fire continues. He is homeless and lost everything, including over 60 dogs. They were his friends. He is 71 years old and scared.
So I beg please, any amount, even pennies, will help him so much.
Much love xx
