First Electric Vehicle Charging Station in Homer A

Donation protected

We are raising funds to pay for the installation of Homer Alaska’s very first public EV (Electric Vehicle) charging station! We are working with Tesla who has provided the destination charging station for free (see photos of the installation kit.) Karin Marks (owner of the Art Shop Gallery building) has agreed to host the charging station at the Gallery. Scott Owen (a certified professional electrician) has mapped out the supplies and construction work that will be required for the installation of the EV charging station and will be providing the installtoin expertise at a discount for this project. These funds will be use to purchase the necessary electrical equipment and supplies and accomplish the installation. Karin Marks has already acquired the concrete bumpers for where the EVs will park during recharging!

This project began when Dimitri Shein (2018 US congressional candidate, Tesla owner and EV advocate) contacted us with information about Tesla's destination charger program.  Now that we have shown Tesla that we have secured a host, a location and the knowledge and expertise to accomplish the installation, Tesla has sent us one of their destination chargers. We are now in the final phase, which is raising funds for the installation.

Having this first EV charging station in Homer will have several optical as well as near-term practical impacts. The most immediate practical impact will be that EV owners from around Alaska (there are over 150 EV vehicle in AK - isn’t that cool!) will be able to drive to Homer, recharge and return home. Currently, Anchorage EV owners cannot drive to Homer and return on one charge. This charging station will allow EV owners to visit Homer in their EVs. Once our installation is complete, our Homer charging station will automatically become visible on the several charging station location aps, including Teslas. We anticipate that having this first EV charging station will raise the profile of EV in Homer and encourage other EV charging station installations and the purchase of other electric vehicles. We are already working with Nancy Hilstrand to accomplish another installation at Coal Point. We also have plans, working with HEA, to host an EV rally in Homer. Local Tesla owner Pat Ford and HEA are eager to show off their EVs and we will be inviting EV owners from across the state to join us. And of course Dimitri Shein will be driving down his Tesla down from Anchorage and encouraging Anchorage EV owners to drive to Homer as well. We fully expect this first installation to have many positive impacts on the development of EVs in Homer and on the Kenai … Please help make this happen by supporting our first installation.
BTW: If your business or organization is interested in hosting an EV charging station, we will help pave the way for you to participate in the Tesla Destination Charging Program. Please contact Taz Tally [email redacted] or [phone redacted] for more info.
