First person to run from Cape Town to London

About the campaign
On 24th July 2023, I will run from Cape Town, South Africa, to London, UK. This journey will cover 2 continents, 15 Countries, 14,570km (9,053 miles), and 381 Days. By going on this, I will tell the history of Human Migration from Africa to the rest world.
I plan to create a documentary film from my Cape Town to London journey, which I will distribute to major film festivals and production companies. The many reasons for documenting this journey are to show a different side of Africa that we don't see in the mainstream media. African and Black history is the most extended history in the world, so it's essential to show history beyond slavery and colonisation. The history of Human Migration will highlight how the earliest humans that walked on this world migrated and navigated to the rest of the world.
Representation matters
- Through this journey, I want to inspire the next generation of young people showing them that nothing is impossible when you persist and apply consistency to your goals.
- To highlight where humanity first walked on Earth.
- To be the first person in history to run from Cape Town to London
- To be the first African-born Black person to run the length of Africa and Europe.
Your support will help me to put together the best team of people and acquire the necessary equipment that will help to complete this journey successfully.
- Purchase a vehicle, fuel, vehicle tax and transportation between Africa and Europe.
- Cover for visas, vaccinations, and any necessary accommodation (for example, in some countries, a hotel stay is recommended).
- Pay for guides to support my team and me across tricky areas like National Parks and buy food & water.
- Purchase other equipment like a camping tent, sleeping bags and cooking equipment.
About me
I am Deo. I am a Ugandan-born Trail runner and Running Coach based in London. Following the murder of George Floyd in the US city of Minneapolis, I committed to running a minimum of 10 km a day for 381 days, starting on 6th June 2020 - 21st June 2021. I was inspired by the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955, when African Americans in Alabama staged a civil rights protest that lasted for 381 days. The 381 DAYS: Running For Justice movement then turned into a relay, and the run community took on stints to run 10k for the second and third years of the campaign.
During my 381 Days: Running For Justice movement, I have campaigned by running distances of more than 10km, including half marathons, marathons and ultramarathon challenges. I ran the London Marathon in 2021, and London Marathon Events awarded me the Spirit of the London Marathon award. I ran the Charlie Ramsay Round Challenge with a team of 6 Black Trail Runners to become the first group of Black and Brown people to run the highest peaks in the UK. In 2022, I ran the London Marathon twice, from the finish line to the start line and then from the start line to the finish line, while carrying a banner campaigning against the murders of unarmed Black people in the UK.
Thank you for supporting me on this journey
