First Presbyterian Church of Douglas Arizona

Dear Friends of First Presbyterian Church,

On May 22, 2023, an arsonist set fire to our church and destroyed our beautiful historic sanctuary, along with our neighboring church, St. Stephen’s Episcopal. While we are all shocked and devastated, we believe that with God’s help, we can recover and will continue our ministry stronger than ever.

It is still too early to know how much of our sanctuary structure can be saved, but we have a great insurance company involved and some amazing restoration experts working with us. However, rebuilding is going to be a very long process!

In the meantime, we will continue to gather at alternative sites (currently at Grace Methodist) until the annex to our building can be deemed safe. We have also found a way to continue our food pantry ministry to the community, thanks to the generous help of a Belfor employee with a huge heart.

This fundraiser will help our church congregation be able to continue to have services. The money we raise at this time will help to cover the cost of the following items that were lost in the fire: a good electronic keyboard, Sound System/AV equipment, Laptop, Guitar, English Bibles, and Spanish Bibles, and we would like to have a live streaming system.

This church has meant so much to so many people over the decades; if we were to compile a list of the lives that have been touched by the First Presbyterian Church of Douglas, it would number in the thousands. We offer prayers of gratitude for every one of those lives, even as we offer our prayers of lament for this sorrow that has affected so many people in so many ways, including the entire town of Douglas.
