Help fund the first Redondo Beach Community Garden

Tax deductible
For the past two years I have been leading the volunteer-run Redondo Beach Community Gardens committee in our grassroots effort to start the very first community garden for Redondo Beach. After two years of community-driven planning and sustained volunteer leadership, we now have all the necessary city approvals to begin building the first garden at Alta Vista Park.

We invite the community and our supporters to join us now in the work of fully funding the garden. Your tax-deductible contributions towards our 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor, South Bay Parkland Conservancy, will go directly towards building the first Redondo Beach Community Garden.

OUR MISSION
The mission of the Redondo Beach Community Gardens (RBCG) is to provide residents of Redondo Beach with a space to grow food, build community, reduce food insecurity, and practice sustainable and healthy living. The experiences of the pandemic have highlighted the importance of community resilience and interdependence, and the need to support our physical and mental health on a macro-level through vibrant green spaces.

YOUR SUPPORT
We are excited to offer several levels at which you can support the garden:
  • THANK YOU: $25 and up = A handwritten thank you card from garden organizers (this level and all levels above)
  • SEED SAVER: $50 - $99 = Your name will be listed as a Seed Saver on our Community Garden website
  • SEEDLING SUPPORTER: $100-$249 = Your name will be listed as a Seedling Supporter on our website
  • PEACEFUL POLLINATOR: $250-$499 = Your name will be listed as a Peaceful Pollinator on our website + on our in-garden plaque
  • COMMUNITY CULTIVATOR: $500-$749 = Sponsors a raised bed with custom dedication brick + recognition as a Community Cultivator on our website + in-garden plaque
  • FRUITFUL FUNDER: $750-$999 = Sponsors a fruit tree with custom dedication brick + recognition as a Fruitful Funder on our website + in-garden plaque
  • GARDEN CHAMPION: $1,000-$4,999 = Corporate sponsorship with name on our website + in-garden plaque; or Individual donor option with custom dedication brick + name on our website + in-garden plaque
  • FOUNDERS' CIRCLE: $5,000+ = Corporate sponsorship with name on our website + in-garden plaque; or Individual donor option with custom dedication brick + name on our website + in-garden plaque

Note: We will send thank you cards to the address listed in your billing information. Sponsoring a raised bed does not equal registering for a plot; rather you are funding the materials for the raised bed itself. Indicate your preferred name for recognition when you donate. We will follow-up via email to confirm the dedication message or logo to be included on the plaque/brick, if applicable.

MORE INFO
We have broad support from the community and residents, with letters of support from Supervisor Holly Mitchell, California Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, Los Angeles Community Garden Council, Hermosa Beach Community Garden, Beach Cities Health District, Valmonte Farm, Enviroscape LA, and more. We have also partnered with BSA Troop 586 to incorporate Eagle Projects as part of the garden build. The City of Redondo Beach will be funding curb cuts and irrigation access for the garden.

You can access our plans and letters of support, in our public Google Drive folder .

Our nonprofit fiscal sponsor, South Bay Parkland Conservancy , is a 501(c)3 organization with the demonstrated institutional experience and capacity of working with the City of Redondo Beach to implement volunteer-driven environmental programs such as native habitat restoration projects at Wilderness Park and the Esplanade Bluff Garden.

Members of the volunteer-run RBCG committee have extensive experience working with cities, managing nonprofits, coordinating public health programs, teaching students, and running urban farms and community gardens. We have thoughtfully incorporated the guidance of city council members, city staff, community leaders, and thriving community garden programs in nearby cities to lay the groundwork for success.

This first garden will serve as a model for future community gardens in Redondo Beach and will provide numerous benefits including improved nutrition and food access, access to green space for those living in apartments & condos, reductions in environmental impacts via composting and carbon sequestration, and a strengthened sense of community.

The Redondo Beach community eagerly awaits this first garden! Thank you for contributing to making this a reality!
