First Tee Detroit 2016 Programming

Mission: To impact the lives of the young people of Greater Detroit by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.

Purpose: To serve as a multi-faceted youth and family resource that partners with schools, community organizations/agencies, for-profit courses, golf organizations/associations, corporate sponsors, and other industry resources to provide, through golf, a life skills experience that encourages:

Recreation - through the life-long sport of golf
Education - through academic and life skills education
Aspiration - using life and golf skills to prepare youth for the future

The First Tee program fits perfectly with our mission of making golf accessible to youth in the largest urban center of Michigan. The First Tee and our organization share a goal of providing education, exercise, and mentorship to all youth, particularly those that are underrepresented in the game of golf. We believe that golf is more than a game; golfers have a unique code of conduct not found in other competitive games or sports. Through learning the game of golf, young people develop the character traits that will transfer success on the golf course to success in life.
