An inspirational intellect, Jim Stewart was a much-loved academic on the English and Creative Writing programme at the University of Dundee.

He was also a very talented poet, having written poetry from childhood onwards, almost continuously, and published in numerous magazines from 1966 onwards. As well as lyric poetry he wrote a libretto with Graham Robb, Flora and the Prince, staged at Carnegie Hall (New York) and St Paul’s Cathedral (Dundee).

For many years Jim had been planning a collection of his poetry, and he was beginning to see this take shape before he succumbed to cancer. To celebrate his life and his legacy, we hope to publish Jim’s poems through The Voyage Out Press. In keeping with Jim’s preoccupations, this volume will bring together human, animal and vegetal worlds, and in the reading of it teach us how to watch and wait, to truly see every creature, landscape and season in the world around us.

Our crowdfunding bid will cover printing and publishing costs and will allow us to share Jim's wonderful words with a community of readers, writers and poets alike.
