Fi's Butterfly Effect

Purpose
The purpose of ‘Fi’s Butterfly Effect’ gofundme is to raise money for families who have a family member undergoing palliative care (near the end of life). Fi Hansen was the definition of kindness and we want to share that with others.
We want to build an organization in the same name, which enables families to spend precious time together, making memories, and living their last moments to the fullest.
The idea of the organization was shaped through the experience of Dave, Jordie and Jesse Hansen. Fi Hansen was the beloved step-mum to Jordie and Jesse and wife to Dave. Fi was diagnosed with ampullary cancer in November 2019 and passed away in August 2021. Through the generosity of friends and family they were able to share the last two years of her life enjoying precious time together and creating memories. When Covid restrictions allowed they holidayed together and Fi was able to spend her final days in her favourite location of all, Mount Martha where she holidayed with her family throughout her life.
It was during Jordie and Jesse’s time on Survivor when they realised how fortunate they were to have been able to spend that precious time with Fi. As a result, the idea to start an organization to support families in a similar situation was born. Particularly as they felt many families wouldn’t have the financial support of friends and family that they had received.
The name ‘Fi’s Butterfly Effect’ and the logo of a butterfly holds significant importance to Jordie and Jesse. Fi absolutely loved butterflies and in a final letter she wrote to Jordie and Jesse for them to read after her passing she referenced that every time they saw a butterfly they were to think ‘be thankful and what can I do today to make someone else’s life better?’ During the filming of Survivor the boys were blown away by the number of butterflies that surrounded their camps and this really helped them to feel a strong connection with Fi during their time in the game. It was also during their time in the game in which the idea of starting their own organization really came to light. Hence, the butterfly holds significant importance to the boys and their connection to Fi and their connection to Survivor in which the idea was born. Butterfly Effect also gives reference to the idea that the tiniest acts of kindness can have a significant impact on someone’s life. Fi’s words to live by, “being kind, being thankful” could live on in a charity named after her.
Fi’s Butterfly Effect is now connected with ‘Shannon’s Bridge’ a charity specializing in Palliative Care service. All funds donated to Fi’s Butterfly Effect are transferred to Shannon’s Bridge to ensure all Australian Charity Laws are abided by. These funds are kept separate and are only to be donated to families according to Fi’s Butterfly Effect’s code, and on approval from Jordie, Dave and Jesse.
How do we donate :
- Our organization is first and foremost focused on generosity. The last thing we want is to cause more red tape for families that are struggling financially and have a member that is terminally ill. Hence, we give generously without stringent requirements as many other organizations have.
- Persons must be diagnosed with a terminal illness or be deemed near end of life.
- The funding is given for any required purpose, whether that be a family holiday, time off work, trips to the movies or whatever change is required for the person/family in order to allow them to be financially free.
- Funding is provided on a case by case basis.
If you know someone who is in need of help, or you yourself are in need of financial assistance. Applications for funding can be made through this Go Fund Me.
Thank you so much for considering this cause.
