Fish’s Gastrointestinal Surgery
Donation protected
Fish is our big dopey German Shepard/hound mix. He is named after Fish from ‘Chicken Little’. He is 1 year and 8 months old. Fish loves to play fetch and run with his friends. He’s a goofball and we love him. Some people find his looks intimidating upon first sight but they come to realize he’s just a big dopey baby who loves attention and asks to be pet until your arms get tired.
On 08/03/24, we rushed him to Veterinary Emergency Group of Nanuet, NY. That morning he had been throwing up bile. We fed him some chicken and rice at around 11 AM and at 3:30PM he began throwing up his breakfast whole. We rushed to the animal hospital. It started with x-rays, induced vomiting with no success. The amazing doctors at the hospital attempted to remove the foreign object from Fish’s stomach via endoscopy. They successfully removed a full sock and some pieces of a felt toy but there was something big that wouldn’t budge. The fear was if they tried to pull it out they might injure his esophagus. Thus the next course of action had to be taken… gastrointestinal surgery. He was found to have eaten a whole sock, some of his felt toy, and a whole microfiber towel.
I feared the worse. The hospital provided us with the estimated cost of $1400 when we first arrived but after everything it came to $9040. We now have pet insurance but it will sadly not help with this.
Any donation amount is greatly appreciated. If nothing else, our story can be a warning to others that even if you don’t think your dog would eat objects… they definitely can and just might. Keep all felt toys away unless supervised and keep all laundry stored away.
