Marissa my dear friend, new mother, she has a heart of gold. Always sweet and kind to everyone, a ray of sunshine even when times are tough tells her story and her journey of cancer. Marissa is newely married, she has a new born baby, and sadly is unable to work.
Here is her story…
On November 26th 2019, I received my first breast cancer diagnosis, at the young age of only 24. I was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of breast cancer, stage 2 Grade 3, breast cancer.
I underwent 2 years of treatment to fight off this disease, I went through multiple surgeries, 5 months of an aggressive chemo treatment, and 32 rounds of radiation, while also being on monthly medication. Because I had a high risk of recurrence my doctors were extremely aggressive with my treatment plan.
December 2021, I found out I was pregnant with a little miracle baby. My beautiful baby girl was born august 16th, 2022. Shortly after having her I got Covid and ended up in the hospital. A CT scan was done to check my lungs and that’s where and when we found out the most devastating news.. my cancer has returned and was found in my liver.
I now have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer at the age of 27, which is the only stage that cannot be cured and will kill..
After my first diagnosis I thought things were going well and I would live a long healthy life so I started training my dogs in Schutzhund , I went back to school to become a nurse to now help others in need, and I had gotten a new job in the health care system working in radiology. I had a beautiful baby, and was so happy to start a family.
Unfortunately my goals and dreams are to be put on hold while I fight for my life and go through treatment again and for the rest of my life. The goal is to prolong life and be on treatment for life.
My treatment plan so far:
⁃ Liver ablation (a painful procedure to burn the cancer tumors)
⁃ 15 rounds of radiation
⁃ Monthly injections
⁃ Oral chemo meds daily
⁃ Routine bloodwork, appointments, scans
⁃ I can also participate in trials
if we can raise funds for her, Marissa can focus on her treatment instead of stressing about money. Can you help? Are you willing to donate?
