Fix a Disabled Michigander's Car
Donation protected
I’m a mixed-race disabled trans Michigander living with (and caring for) my retired elderly grandmother. Recently I got in a fender-bender that rendered my car undriveable and the dealership estimated I’ll need a minimum of $800 just to diagnose the problem. We live paycheck-to-paycheck: I don’t have that kind of money! But you can’t get around in my part of Michigan without a car.
Can you help me get my car fixed, so I can get groceries and get to the doctors’ and lawyers appointments for my SSDI appeal?
If you can share the donation page with anyone else, I’d appreciate it: I’m doing my absolute best, but the last couple of years have been a real challenge, and my SSDI appeal is taking (as is the norm) absolutely forever while my own mental and physical health declines.
Some of you may recall that I started another GoFundMe in January 2023, trying to leave my current living situation. In the intervening time, my own health has not improved and I have lost work hours (and pay). My SSDI has not come through yet, meaning my financial situation is more precarious than before. Perhaps most importantly, I’ve worked out a tentative arrangement with my grandmother that means that for the time being, remaining in my current living situation is the most pragmatic choice. Instead of trying to leave, and putting myself on the hook for extra rent and utility bills, I am focusing on my disability appeal, and for that, I desperately need a car so I can get to doctors appointments, lawyers meetings, and other necessary out-of-the-house events.
This first $850 goal will be enough to get it back to the shop and looked at, so we can get a full repair estimate, at which point I will update everyone with the new goal and what the shop says!
