Chai's butt is broken!...
What the heck are you talking about?
In simple terms. Chai has a broken butthole. Here's the story. SKIP IF SENSITIVE TO ANIMAL INJURIES. TLDR: She requires surgery for her rectal muscles.
My name is Jacqueline. I'm a longtime foster of cats and lover of all animals. Over covid I continued my fostering as the local shelter was still accepting animal intakes to support the community, and typically I foster roughly 100 kittens a year.
A spicy kitten was brought into intake and, wanting to give her the best chance possible at life, she was sent into foster care to socialize her. I spent every day with this young kitten as she hissed and smacked and hid from me, only to form a strong bond with her. Checking on her in her enclosure one day I discovered a great deal of blood and a crying kitten. We rushed her to the clinic and they told us she had a prolapsed anus. It was fixed and the muscle was pushed back into place but over the next week it happened two more times.
The third time was the final try, and I was pulled into the side room at 10AM and told that there wasn't enough funding to be able to give her the surgery necessary. Spending weeks with this cat meant I had built a bond with her, ensuring her safety and comfort and her coming to me for protection. I couldn't let anything happen to her so...I adopted her.
We rushed her to the amazing people at Pine Castle Animal Clinic and they took care of her the same day with a purse string operation, meaning that they create the stitches around the anus that tighten and keep the internal muscle from forcing itself out when she uses the restoom.
Three more failures with that, and on the third try she was set! We thought the problems were fixed until....
1/14/23. I climbed into bed and was more than happy to let her cuddle with me since it was so cold, but when she moved over I saw the blood again that I dreaded so much. Rushing her to the emergency vet cost me a good $1520, they patched her up overnight and taking her back to her regular vet on 1/16 (they were closed on Sunday) they told me shes going to need a more invasive surgery within the next week.
We are scared. We are trying. We have her in her own little pen hiding away from the other cats so we can monitor her but for a theme park employee this is a nightmare. If you have anything at all you can send her way, please know that one scared kitty and her mama will cherish you forever.
