Fix our Walk-in Freezer

Want to join me in making a difference? When I started the West End Food Pantry; I thought I would find donations of food that would typically go into a landfill because of unuse and get it into our community to lend a helping hand to those in need.

The need in our area was much larger than I anticipated and we quickly grew to lease the large walk-in freezer/refrigerator units in the Eldred Township Community Center. Oddly, we have never had an issue filling our freezer unit so when it died, we had an important decision to make; fix it or not fix it!

Sadly, these units are original to the Eldred Elementary School and couldn’t be bandaged forever. When our freezer unit went down a local refrigeration professional deemed it requiring a new compressor and fan unit to fix. Then as just our luck, it went down a second time when the coils could not handle the new pressure resulting in a bill totaling $14,895.50! We do appreciate Pocono Refrigeration for quickly getting this unit up and running so folks in need never had to go without high-quality protein.

On a hope and a prayer that I would find a grant or local organization to help us with the expense, we made the decision to fix the unit. A month+ later, I have yet to find grant help. I have certainly heard my fair share of no’s so as a last resort I am going to ask for your help.
