Project Description: The purpose of this fundraiser is to fix a broken water supply in the Ambohitsilaozana community of Madagascar. During the 1960s, the Lake Alaotra French agriculture research center installed an irrigation system providing piped water to 4 communities. The system continued to provide the communities with clean water with little maintenance occurring for nearly 70 years. In 2021, a cyclone hit the community wiping out whole sections of the pipe and cutting off the water supply to over 14,000 residents. Due to the lack of infrastructure and the vacancy of the agricultural center, the local government was ill-prepared to restore the structure.

Individuals in the area must walk up to 3 kilometers to get water from a dirty creek or pay to use private wells. Due to the lack of water, families struggle to have enough water for critical needs like food and bathing. The local clinics are forced to be frugal with their water use and are therefore not able to follow proper sanitation protocols. If able to raise the funds for this project, we will restore the pipe system to provide access to water for 4 neighborhoods with 14,195 individuals. In addition, after the restoration, a community water business will be established to ensure adequate funds for quality maintenance and repairs. There is a local Malagasy woman who is prominent in the community that is our main partner on the project, and works in the town hall. She has written a contract to be signed by the Mayor to ensure the integrity and completion of the project.

Every donation will go towards providing a critical need for whole communities of people.

Thank you in advance for your generous support to this project.
