Fixing my Dad’s Broken Heart!

My name is Joana Ladroma and I'm writing this page in behalf of my brothers, Arnold and Aries Duque.

On June 1st 2024, our Dad suffered a heart attack. We called 911, it was the longest 10 minutes of our lives. He was rushed to St. Boniface ER and had multiple test and an angiogram. The results were devastating as he had multiple clogged arteries which required him to undergo an open heart surgery as soon as possible. What I haven't mentioned yet is that my father developed a chronic kidney disease while staying in Canada. This co-morbidity plus his diabetes increases the risk of postoperative complications. The doctors decided to do a conservative approach and treat him with medications but there's no guarantee that he will not suffer another heart attack. So our family is on a constant high alert. He was discharged last June 9th and again called 911 due to heavy chest pains, water retention on his lungs and hard to breath last July 23rd. He was discharged again the following day.

Our Dad is a loving, caring man. I knew him as a man with principles and would go out of his way to help other people. He was also a good provider as a father. He has been my staunch role model growing up. He is the first man in my life and would forever be my first love. My father is a health freak. When he got diagnosed with diabetes, he changed his life style, switched to eating salads. He stopped eating foods he loved, always choosing the healthier options because he love living more!

The financial strain of the recent hospitalization and the future treatment of his kidney complications have been a constant stress to our family. We have exhausted his health insurance and have been left with an insurmountable task of raising money to pay for hospital bills. He is on TRV (Temporary Resident Visa) as a visitor, pending the approval on Parents Sponsorship Application.

We are knocking on your good heart and asking for your compassion. His grandkids are praying that they could spend more time with their grandfather. My mother has been inseparable from my Dad and is inconsolable. The fear of losing him weighs heavily on her. My siblings and I are at a loss. We are hoping to raise enough money to pay for the remaining hospital bills and future treatment of his kidney and heart disease.
