Help us move to a better location

Hello and thank you for giving us your time to read our pledge. My name is Josean. I’m a single father of my 5 year old autistic non verbal son named Samuel. Just like many people since the pandemic things have been very difficult for us. I do my very best to provide all the necessary essentials for my son but many times it’s barely enough to get by and I have to sacrifice many things for myself in order to make sure Samuel is taken care of. He always comes first. Like I mentioned before he is autistic non verbal, suffers from aspirations so he eats from a G-Tube in his stomach so the only thing he is fed with is Pediasure grow and gain which can be a bit costly at times. On top of that he sees multiple speech, feeding, occupational and physical therapist every month as well as attending a pediatric and wellness center/academy which also requires out of pocket copays and tuition. I have been lucky enough to be billed for the copays and allowed to pay the tuition in payments instead of having to pay them at that moment but truthfully it has been overwhelming and I find myself falling behind. We currently live in Chicago and I have the full responsibility of Samuels logistics and care completely alone which has effected my ability to be present at my job which has forced me to resign/retire so I can give Samuel all the care he requires and since I can’t go to work I can barely bring in any income. I filed for assistance from SSI in March which would be an amazing help and at the moment we have been waiting on the determination. We have a incredible opportunity in front of us that would take some of the weight off my shoulders but unfortunately it’s located on the west coast, I also applied and was offered a job there who will be very accommodating to my situation. This is where my attempt to make this pledge comes in. I’ve never really done anything like this before and I’m not used to just out right asking for help. I usually just do my best to handle my issues out regardless of the struggle, stress, difficulty and personal sacrifice but I’m willing to swallow my pride open up my vulnerability and ask for any type of assistance I can get. Lord knows I can use it. I’m asking for help with being able to relocate to a place that has a better chance for us. I will be driving there and will try to keep costs low since we don’t have many things to take with us. I did some research on the trip and all we would need is a small cargo trailer from Uhaul, about 5 fill ups, tolls and any emergency expenses. I plan on using rest stops and not getting a motel room to keep costs low. Any assistance would be a great appreciated and is one step closer to our relocation to a better and easier life.
