Flag Retirement Boxes in Blount County: Eagle Scout Project

Donation protected
Adam Herron, who is working to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout, is raising the necessary funds to install two American Flag Retirement boxes. The locations include the Blount County Courthouse and VFW Outpost 5154 in Louisville. Both will be easy to find and access after business hours.

Flag Retirement boxes provide a way for citizens to ensure that flags, which are no longer suitable for flying, are retired with respect. Currently, there isn't an easily accessible, viable place for the public to drop off American Flags for retirement.

Donations will be used to purchase three weather-resistant, metal drop boxes with vinyl wrapping and cover the costs of installing the boxes with a secure concrete base.

With the support of Blount County Mayor Ed Mitchell, these boxes will be the property of the citizens of Blount County. VFW Outpost 5154 is committed to retrieving the flags at all three locations on a regular basis and partnering with Boy Scout Troop 87 to properly retire them.
