FLCA Business of Sport Barbados
Donation protected
I am so excited to share that I have been chosen to participate in a faculty led classroom abroad (FLCA) experience in Christ Church Barbados. This trip will help me gain valuable real world sporting industry experience as well as a fantastic opportunity to understand the culture surrounding sports and the business of sports in another country! However, the cost of this trip is substantial. The total estimated cost is $3,757, which includes accommodation, meals, flights, local transportation, and cultural excursions. While I am committed to investing in this invaluable experience, I am seeking financial assistance to help offset these costs.
More about the trip.....
The Durham College Marketing and Sport Management programs have combined to send 10 students to Christ Church Barbados from November 25 to December 2, 2024. Here we will provide business consultation services for a local sport company, Cat's International Sports. This organization is dedicated to the growth and development of sport and sports tourism. We will be presented with a business challenge that Cat's International Sports is facing and will volunteer at the Global Organic Tourism Master Plan tournament, a multi-sport event for international teams in the Caribbean.
This trip presents a unique opportunity for us to apply our academic knowledge in a real-world setting, gain international experience, and contribute to the growth of sport and sports tourism in Barbados. We will also be visiting cultural sites and participating in Barbados Independence Day activities, providing us with a rich cultural experience.
Why this is important to me....
For the last 2 years I have fully immersed myself in the sport management program and the opportunities that have been provided because of this. Throughout my various volunteer, volunteer and school learnings I have been able to begin growing my name as a sport management professional through assisting organizations with my current knowledge.
As the secretary, volunteer coordinator and web administrator for Red Circle Hockey Club I am always looking for ways to improve their procedures. This trip will help me to bring back new trends and knowledge to share and continue to improve our local leagues here in Canada.
Finally, this trip above all is a fantastic "kill 2 birds with 1 stone" - I get to have an amazing academic experience while also getting to enjoy the culture and explore a new country. As someone who hasn't travelled much outside of Ontario I am so excited to be able to see more of the world!
