More information about East Maui Animal Refuge: The East Maui Animal Refuge also known as The Boo Boo Zoo is a no-kill, all volunteer-run, non profit, rehabilitation sanctuary for injured and orphaned animals who would otherwise die.

Suddenly, this haven for so many amazing animals & wildlife were thrust into danger with a "FLOOD EVACUATION order".  How could they possibly relocate over 500 animals & wildlife.  I had no idea how to help, we grabbed our pet (parrot) carriers, before we could get out the door,  all roads were flooded & being evacuated.  This non-profit has warmed my heart over & over the last 30 plus years.  So accepting & being volunteer run.

When I heard Haiku was under an "evacuation order",  immediately my mind plunged into the over 500 animal & wildlife residents that call the Boo Boo Zoo home.  Now, blocked by flooding roads to allow us out, this was the only thing I could think of doing...

Please take 5:59 minutes to get to know the extremely important video linked above.  it is full of important information.  They have added the in/out aviary as well as the cat enclosures.  Their minds are sharp & detailed, they have to be to make this work with so many in need of so much LOVE, & TLC.

Personally, I moved to Maui in July 1979.  I quickly became familiar with the island & it was not long before I was assisting visitors with how to get around the island as well as many other activities they might find of interest.  Although my work at the Maui Surf Resort (sold to Westin in 1984, like many of my colleagues, we found ourselves a new place of employment with the opening of the (then new) late 1984 Hyatt Regency Kaanapali.  Continuing to work over 24 years at the Hyatt as well as assisting visitors mostly in the Kahana area, at times, a brief time in warm Lahaina town.  Eventually, assisting when requested with much larger groups with Destination Management Companies.  I had lived two years (9/1982-9/1984) on the island of Kauai to assist with the Surf Resorts, therefore I'm very familiar from living & working on both Maui & Kauai.

Along the way, often having to contact the "Boo Boo Zoo" to assist with an animal in need of caring for or orphaned.  This seems so impossible to persons like myself or my associates or friends, colleagues.  It would happen occasionally.  Growing more fond of the detail & TLC the Boo Boo Zoo provided was amazing, after-all, they are run by volunteers at the director of curator, Sylvan Schwab.  he alone is amazing, working from before sunup to after sundown on emergency status 24/7.

This short video gives you a brief insight to their 24/7 commitment to these animals & wildlife.  I find if I can assist them in just paying the bills each month with what might be available after paying bills, etc.

I found on Amazon in my orders, if I add smile before the .com  to www.amazonsmile.com I have linked EMAR (East Maui Animal Refuge) also warmly known as the BOO BOO ZOO*.
(*Remember when you were little playing you would scrape a knee or arm, creating a boo boo).

Please familiarize yourself by getting to know this amazing haven for animals & wildlife, yes, wildlife through this brief, yet  extremely important & informative video.

Thank you in advance.
