Flood Recovery for Vermont Dog Eats
Donation protected
Elisa Garcia-Rey opened her Vermont Dog Eats bake shop and retail store in downtown Montpelier six weeks ago - Memorial Day 2023. Vermont Dog Eats has been making and selling certified organic dog treats with locally-sourced and people-grade ingredients for several years, but this is the business' first retail operation. Its all-natural dog treats are handmade, baked and bagged right here in Montpelier, Vermont.
The week of July 10th brought major storms and catastrophic river flooding to communities all over Vermont, including Montpelier. The bake shop took on several feet of flooded water, resulting in a great deal of structural damage as well as loss of inventory, ingredients and supplies. The flooring and walls will need to be replaced, the baking and production materials will need to be repurchased, and the retail store will need to be rebuilt.
Let's rally to assist Elisa and her business in this time of need. Things to know:
- Early word is that flood insurance won't cover the damages or recovery from this event;
- Elisa is committed to reopening her business as soon as possible;
- While she and her team clean up the shop and begin repairs, they're also donating dog treats to other local residents, businesses and canine supporters who've been impacted by the flooding;
- This isn't a surprise: Elisa supports many other Vermont farmers and producers through her deep commitment to sourcing as many ingredients locally as possible. She has also been a tireless and supportive community volunteer in both Montpelier and the Mad River Valley, where she and her family make their home. She has worked there as a community volunteer for years, as a schoolteacher at the Waitsfield Elementary School and as the coordinator of that school's massive annual Ski & Skate Sale fundraiser.
- All funds raised will go directly to rebuild efforts and to restock lost inventory.
